Blogging has become an important tool for online communication over the past decade. Popular among news organizations and individual journalists, blogs are an inexpensive and relatively easy way to publish content and create communities.

Renaissance Journalism, a project of San Francisco State University’s Journalism Department, experiments with bold, new approaches to news and storytelling, reimagining the media as a vital source of education, engagement and empowerment for underserved communities. Created in 2009, Renaissance Journalism provides grants, technical assistance and training, and forges entrepreneurial partnerships with journalists and their news organizations, ethnic media and hyperlocal news sites, philanthropic and nonprofit organizations, scholars and students. The organization operates in partnership with ZeroDivide.
